Members of the Welkom K9 unit and provincial Counter Narcotics of Crime Intelligence arrested five suspects for various crimes, including drug possession and illegal immigration.

On 13 November, members of the police received information about a man who was about to collect drugs near Lindsay Road in Welkom. He was driving a white Volkswagen Citi Golf.

“A waylay duty was conducted and the vehicle was spotted and drugs were found inside the vehicle. A 31-year-old African male was arrested,” says Lt. Col Stephen Thakeng, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police.

In a separate incident, the police received information about a foreign national distributing drugs around the Welkom CBD. The suspect was searched and they found and seized 2 g of crystal meth. A 34-year-old foreign national was arrested for possession of drugs.

In a third incident, a 20-year-old foreign national was found with a forged passport and was charged with forgery, uttering, and contravention of the Immigration Act.

In a another incident, a 23-year-old was arrested for illegal immigration in Thabong, and a fifth suspect, a 28-year-old man, was arrested for possession of gold-bearing material in Thabong.

The police confiscated 4 g of crystal meth and a fraudulent travel passport.
