Members of Welkom Public Order Policing approached a well known drug dealer in one of Thabong’s hostels and discovered a large stash of illegal drugs and liquor.
On Thursday, 2 February, police prevented a woman from destroying drug evidence during a raid at her premises.
“She tried to pour drugs inside a toilet to flush them. The police stopped her,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
The police continued with their search and found and seized 323 full Mandrax tablets and R3 600.
Illegal liquor for which the owner of the premises could not provide a licence to sell, was also discovered.
Two suspects aged 42 and 46 were arrested.
Following up on further information, the Welkom POP members proceeded to Paballong Village.
“A male suspect tried to flee, but the police gave chase and apprehened him,” says Thakeng.
They searched his shack and found 139 full Mandrax tablets and R109.
The three suspects arrested during the second raid are aged 34, 39 and 42, and have been charged with dealing in drugs.
