The Rotary Club of Odendaalsrus hosted its first Amazing Race for Charity, and participants competed following clues and challenges.

The event was held on 4 June at Welkom Square and the challenges consisted of building puzzles, facing fear factor situations and braaiing and selling boerewors rolls.

The clues comprised many riddles that took the more than 40 contestants all over Welkom and surrounds.

Teams were judged on who was best dressed, who had the best made-up vehicle, who earned most points and who showed the most spirit. The overall winners were Herman de Jonge, Helen de Jonge, Mandie du Toit and Dewald du Toit.

The best dressed award went to the La Familia team, made up of Lizma, Kaylee and Marco Groenewald. The best made-up vehicle accolade was given to the Ladybugs, comprising Mariska Jonker, Chane van der Merwe, Renate Theunissen, Amanda Thomas and Nadia Breytenbach. The award for the most spirited team went to Candice Jones, Pieter Jones, Megan Odendaal, Riaan Marais and Gerrit Odendaal.
