On the Wednesday, eye clinics were held at the hospital. Various activities were conducted as part of awareness and in celebration of the day.

The motto of the day was “See the world through the visually impaired”.

On 12 September prosthetic eyes were fitted at the hospital, free of charge.

During this period an eye operations marathon (cataract removal) was also orchestrated. They focussed on 80 patients, and 50 operations were eventually performed.

These patients were admitted on 13 October and the operations were performed on 15 October.

“Through these operations, the eyesight of 50 patients were restored,” says Mkatsane.
