Events united by company’s support

Welkom will be a hive of activity on Saturday (12/03).

Three events – the Goudveld-Hoërskool’s sports day, the Welkom Publicity Association’s flea market and the Anco Ultramarathon – will all be happening at the same time, linked through one of the largest outside broadcasts put on in Welkom.

The fibre network provider Evotel is the exclusive sponsor of the sports day.

“Our sponsorship is simply one of the ways in which Evotel shows its support for the upliftment and general well-being of struggling provincial towns that were hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown,” says Bradley Bekker, head of brand at Evotel.

The sports day will see 16 provincial schools competing against each other in rugby, hockey and netball.

According to Bekker, Evotel will be present at all three events to meet and converse with residents. Merchandise hampers will also be available.

The Goudveld-Hoërskool is one of the beneficiaries of Evotel’s schools programme, which offers free fibre access to all schools that fall under its network coverage area.

The company started the programme to provide learners with the high standard of education associated with access to fast internet.

At the sports day, Evotel will hand over R10 000 to House of Hope. This non-profit organisation will also receive free fibre access.

Through these donations, Evotel hopes to assist House of Hope in looking after vulnerable children and giving them a better life.

“We are extremely grateful for the donation. It will help us so much, especially at the baby house to buy nappies and formula,” says Sia Raseeke of House of Hope.

“These things are expensive and we need a lot for the 18 babies we look after. The free fibre access is also great, and will save us money with our communication needs. Every donation relieves our financial pressure. We thank Evotel from the bottom of our hearts.”

Gold FM will do live outside broadcasts from the three major events taking place in Welkom.

“This will be Gold FM’s biggest outside broadcast ever,” says Brian Emmenis, station manager.

“All our mobile units will be uitilised to cover these three events, and all of this is only possible because of Evotel. The company not only brought welcomed fibre, but is also putting money back into the community.”
