The House of Azan and the youth of AME Ebenezer Circuit Church hosted a charity event in aid of the youth in Thabong.
On 1 July the leadership of the NPO, Masabata Makara, Mohapi Maphale and Mpho Mbalisa, and Naledi Setai of the church rubbed hands with the youth and donated clothes and sanitary products to the less fortunate in Thabong.
“We believe that Welkom has a bright future and it’s gestures like these that will spark light and give hope to the youth of Welkom. We grew up in Welkom and we have seen it transform from better to worse – Thabong is slowly downgrading and the youth suffers under the current leadership,” says Mohapi Maphale.
Mbalisa adds that to uplift the youth, one must start by caring for them.
“We must take note of the help they need in order to grow and be better youth of Welkom,” he says.
Makara says she is happy that her team has men who not only helped her with the pads drive, but also as artists.
During the event Afro Fusion contemporary dance performed an act on drums and delivered a monologue.
“Displaying art while we donate to the public enables us to also give those who’d like to join us a chance to learn dance, drama, music and public speaking (poetry, monologues or storytelling),” says Makara.
“We were joined by Saduma Miya and the artist TBone in motivating the youth after performances and giving our the experience critics while uplifting us.
“We urge the community of Thabong to help us make it a better place, if one has clothes to give away or help us with sanitary towels and food parcels, they can bring them to Lejweleputswa Art Centre Studio 1.
“Let’s stand together and make Welkom great again.”
