Welkom equestrian Shaylené Basson recently took part in the adult South African Show Jumping Championships.
This was held at Kyalami Park in Johannesburg from 28 August to 1 September.
Shaylené had been selected for the Free State show jumping team, which competed against all of the provinces.
She was selected with her two horses, Galiloe and High Society, for the 90 cm show jumping team and the 1 m show jumping team.
The Free State team, also consisting of three other riders, won the bronze medal in both classes, which was a massive achievement.
A total of 117 competitors participate in the separate team events.
Shaylené also competed individually, and in the A2 speed class; she and her horse High Society came first out of 104 competitors.
This was a dream come true for Shaylené.
High Society and Galiloe are former race horses.
Shaylené and her coach and mother, Belinda Basson, have taken these two magnificent steeds to new heights in their new careers post horse racing.
She is a rider at the BRS Equestrian Centre in Welkom.
