The Free State Provincial Commercial Crime unit has issued a warrant of arrest for DJ Salimax for defrauding a 59-year-old Welkom woman of R647 000 in 2021.

Salimax is a deejay who organised gigs throughout South Africa. The places he frequents are Klerksdorp, Kanana and Johannesburg.

Salimax was travelling in a silver X5 BMW with the registration number JP 90 JT GP. He also travelled in a white Porsche with the registration number SALIMAX GP.

On 25 May 2021 the victim met with the suspect at a crèche in Riebeeckstad. He introduced himself to her as Sthembiso Masango from Kwazulu Natal. He told her that he works as a property sales agent.

“The two started a relationship and he took care of the needs of the victim, buying clothes for her and taking care of her financial needs,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.

Thakeng says that on 7 June he introduced her to the ancestors who were talking in IsiZulu.

“They wanted to make her rich and to bless her with R8 million. That was when the same ancestors encouraged her to resign and put all her retirement money inside what they call a “money box”. The bogus boyfriend then disappeared,” says Thakeng.

Anyone with information that will assist police with the tracing of DJ Salimax must contact Det. Const. Neo Mothekhe of Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation on 064-039-6968 or Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
