A highly emotive theatrical piece has been created by local artist Katleho Sekhosana.

In Thabang, Sekhosana uses body language, movement, lighting techniques and sound to tell his story.

The effect is disquieting, yet enthralling. When Sekhosana eventually speaks, it is like he is being broken out of a trance.

What follows can be described as internal monologues made public. Heritage, lineage, separation, loss, loneliness and longing become palpable.

Sekhosana’s movements are a steadfast presence throughout – both as a conflicting voice and an accompanying thought.

  • Throughout it all, the presence of blue – sometimes desperate, other times feverish or flirting with the ethereal – is a vast emotional canvas in Sekhosana’s hands. Thabang will be staged from 7 to 9 April at 19:00. Tickets are available at the Ernest Oppenheimer Theatre in Welkom. Interested parties can dial 057-357-1214.
