An esteemed educator and education visionary has been appointed as the new deputy principal of the Welkom Technical High School (THS).
Johan Herbst’s journey from student educator to deputy principal has been an inspiring one.
From the onset he had an unwavering determination, and an unyielding passion for shaping the future of learners. His colleagues say Herbst has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, made clear when he served as a student educator whilst pursuing his academic aspirations.
During this time, he excelled, ultimately earning an honours degree in Educational Management and Educational Law.
His academic journey continued as he delved into research on the correlation between learners’ reading abilities and their overall academic performance.
Known affectionately as “Thabiso” by the learners, Herbst also served as a shop steward for the unions, earning him the nickname.
His visionary outlook aligns seamlessly with the new management of THS, and he stands poised to wholeheartedly dedicate himself to serving the school with unbridled enthusiasm.
Herbst sets exceptionally high standards and is committed to go above and beyond to elevate THS to new heights.
