The Physical Sciences teacher at the Kheleng Secondary School in Hennenman has been announced as the provincial winner in the National Teaching Awards’ (NTA) excellence in teaching Physical Sciences category.

Thuntsi David Thekiso says he entered the competition for the first time in 2018 and was a district winner, representing Lejweleputswa at provincial level.

“I also entered in both 2019 and 2021, but the competition ended at provincial level,” he says.

In 2024, Pat Dipuo Senatla in the Lejweleputswa education district encouraged Thekiso to enter again. “This time I ended up being a winner,” he says with pride.

“I had an opportunity to represent not only my school or Hennenman, but the entire province. I enjoyed the teacher development I received, the opportunities I had and, most of all, the networks I have created with the other talented teachers from other provinces,” says Thekiso.

He adds that he is especially grateful to his family, the school, the Methodist church, the district, and the province for giving him their full support on this journey.

The principal of Kheleng, Molahlehi Johannes Mosia, congratulated Thekiso and celebrated the achievement with him.

“He was very proud when he saw me on television, shaking the hand of and speaking to Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa during the Teachers’ Day that was held at the Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park,” said Thekiso.
