An intelligence-driven operation has led to the arrest of a 21-year-old woman who was smuggling concealed Mandrax-tablets into the Odendaalsrus court for an awaiting trial detainee.

Police were alerted on Tuesday, 21 October, to information regarding a female suspect believed to be smuggling drugs at court premises. The information was operationalised by the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit and Welkom Crime Intelligence.

Whilst following up on the intelligence, the alleged suspect was spotted in Weeber Street. Officers requested and received permission to conduct a search. A thorough search of the suspect was conducted privately, during which she was discovered to be in possession of Mandrax tablets concealed on her body.
