A 34-year-old man travelling to Roodeport, Gauteng, when he allegedly stopped at a hiking spot on the R34 road near zone K6 in Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus, on Friday, 15 December. He was approached by two men who asked for a lift to Sebokeng, Gauteng.

Shortly after the interaction, one of the men took out a firearm and forced his way into the car.

The suspect with a firearm sat on the backseat while the other sat in the front passenger seat. The driver drove to Kroonstad, where he was instructed to pull over and park the car beside the road.

He was tied up and forced inside the boot, and the two suspects made a U-turn towards Kutloanong near the graveyard. The driver was abandoned there.

He managed to untie himself and stopped a passing vehicle, the owner of which took him to the Odendaalsrus Police Station to lay a charge.

Besides the stolen car, an approximately R120 000-worth silver Volkswagen Polo with the registration number DD3 4PN GP, a wallet containing the driver’s licence of a Mojalefa Godfrey Makae, a smart identity document (ID) card, a medical aid card, a University of Johannesburg (UJ) student card, and a wedding ring valued at R13 000 are some of the items reported missing.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng warns motorists not to give lifts to anyone to curb the car-jacking, robbery, and potential raping of victims. Even hitchhikers should not enter the vehicle of a person they do not know.

A case of car-jacking, kidnapping, and attempted murder was registered. Should anyone have any information leading to the arrests of these armed suspects, call the Crime Stop number 08600-10111 or share information, anonymously, on the MySAPS App.
