She is a vibrant visionary who sees Kingdom Academy in Welkom as the nucleus of holistic learning and development.

Heidi Kgothule, the newly appointed principal, says her vision goes beyond academics.

“Yes, academics are important for a child, but each child’s life must also be developed in purpose and destiny.”

Kgothule says ten years ago God called her and her family to Welkom.

“After 20 years as a teacher in the Western Cape, I decided I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom for my three sons: Mohau (8), Tumiso (6), and Tshepo (3). My husband, Hutsi, and I moved into Welkom Mansions. I was looking at putting the boys in one of the two government schools, but God intervened.”

She says she saw Kingdom Academy across from where they lived and on the spur of the moment she marched across the road to enquire about the possibility of placing her children there.

“Not only did my two eldest land up as learners at the school, but I was offered a job as a teacher, and the rest is history.”

She says God called her to the

profession of teaching. “He has a plan for me so that each child under my guidance will fulfil their God-given destiny. God called me to this season and my heart is to develop the children in my care,” says Kgothule.

She is currently establishing John Maxwell’s world leadership programme at the school. This specific initiative is for Gr. 9 to Gr. 11, but Kgothule wants to incorporate every learner, from pre-school and up, in various diversity and skills development programmes so that the children can develop holistically.

“I want the learners to believe in themselves. I want to develop strong personalities. The children at this school must all be rooted and grounded individuals,” says Kgothule.

Kgothule herself puts her beliefs to good practice. In her quiet time she enjoys gardening.

“I love flowers, and when I am not nurturing in the garden I do crafting. I like creating, seeing a project from conception to the finished article.”

She is also a keen reader and enjoys Dee Henderson’s novels. Henderson is a Christian mystery writer.
