The MEC for Health visited Welkom where she handed over school shoes to parents of learners of the Mokgwabong and Lehakwe Primary Schools.
Mathabo Leeto did the handover at Mokgwabong, where 50 parents attended the humble but dignified handover ceremony on Monday, 29 January.
Leeto personally donated 150 school shoes for both girls and boys of Mokgwabong and Lehakwe, as well as the Rheederspark Combined School. The three schools are situated in Welkom.
“School uniforms and school shoes are important social indicators that determine learning outcomes. These indicators determine the mood of learning and teaching,” said Leeto.
She observed that learners lacking school equipment are not motivated to go to school and learn. Poverty among the learners is demoralising for the children, the teachers, and the parents alike, said Leeto.
