The owner of the two pit bulls, who savagely mauled the 3-year-old Keketso Innocent Saule to death was officially arrested on Monday morning.
The child died during an horrific incident on Sunday while playing with friends at a neighbour’s house in Sekoti Mpate, Phomolong, Hennenman.
The suspect, Lebohang Pali (21), also known as Mampudi, appeared in the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court. He has been charged under the Animals Amendment Act, the keeping of vicious dogs.
On Sunday the SAPS rescued Pali from the scene shortly after the toddler died, as angry residents wanted to attack him. One of the two pit bulls was hit with stones and a garden spade and then burnt to death. The second dog was taken by SPCA before the mob could harm it.
The case against Pali has been postponed till 23 November.
