The body of an African male was found lying on the Erfdeel Road at Extension 21, Bronville, when an unknown motorist struck the victim and drove away.
Members of the Bronville SAPS were summoned to the scene after residents witnessed the accident on 28 April.
The man was found lying on his stomach. He was still moving, but could not talk.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS, says preliminary investigations indicate that there was a driver and a passenger in the vehicle.
“They fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the vehicle – a brown one tonner Nissan with registration number CKD 821 FS,” he says.
The police have towed the vehicle and stowed it as part of the investigation.
Thakeng says the man later died while in hospital.
“A case of culpable homicide has been registered for further investigation.”
The deceased was wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes. An Okapi knife and a Samsung cell phone were found next to the body.
He is about 1,6 m tall, of medium build, dark in complexion and has natural black hair. He could be between 35 and 40 years old.
