“God has chosen a good time for all things to happen. He has caused people to think about things that will continue forever. But nobody can completely understand everything that God has done, from the beginning of their lives to the end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

Part of the human condition is our inability to patiently endure.

We live in a world where most of our needs are met instantaneously. We have our food and gifts delivered within hours, and find instant gratification by scrolling through a bouquet of options on our TVs.

All this instant fulfilment, received at our beck and call, creates a delusion of the promises and timing of God in our lives. This can cause us to become sluggish, cynical and, at times, pre-empt his will for our lives.

In James 1:4 we read: “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

The delay of our promises from God at times is his process of establishing patience into our lives. He who promised you is faithful to keep his word. He kept his word to Abraham, to Joseph and to all the others that through faith and patience inherited the promises (Hebrews 6:12).

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us,” we are told in 2 Corinthians 1:20.

His delays are not denials.

“Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” – Psalms 27:14
