The Goldfields’ own animal rights warrior of note, Ernest Khakhau, has been promoted to senior inspector.
Not a man for titles or glory, Khakhau is known for his unwavering fight for the rights of our “creature friends.”
Thea Smit, chairman of the Virginia SPCA, says Khakhau passed all his modules and examinations with the National Council of SPCA (NSPCA) and has earned his new title.
We could not be more proud. Khakhau recently celebrated 13 years with the Virginia SPCA, and the news of his accomplishment came soon after. The journey he has shared with the SPCA the past 13 years is nothing short of extraordinary
“We could not be more proud. Khakhau recently celebrated 13 years with the Virginia SPCA, and the news of his accomplishment came soon after. The journey he has shared with the SPCA the past 13 years is nothing short of extraordinary,” she says.
She says Khakhau started from the bottom.
“Our paths crossed in an amazing way, and it was absolutely meant to be. He never gave up.
“When he was appointed, he did not have any qualifications in animal welfare, not even a driver’s license. His attitude from the start was ‘I can do this’ – and boy, did he do it,” Smit enthuses.
Being an SPCA inspector is not an easy career, but when it sits in your heart and runs through your veins, then the sky is the limit.
Khakhau kept his feet on the ground while reaching for the stars, and he still does. Not one day has he ever seen himself above anything or anyone. He sees the job, and he sees the animal.
“I have had to call him multiple times at odd hours, be it midnight or the early hours of the morning, and say to him there is an emergency, and his response was and always is ‘no problem, Mme, I am on my way,’ ” says Smit.
She says Khakhau’s achievement is well deserved.
We are honored to work alongside you and will continue to do the work. Speak and be loud and clear for the voiceless
“We are honored to work alongside you and will continue to do the work. Speak and be loud and clear for the voiceless.
To the entire SPCA team who support you and work with you, congratulations to you all. I, along with the Committee, celebrate you and your achievement.”
Smit says she and her team are also grateful to the community of supporters who always cheer the Virginia team on.
“I would also like to thank our NSPCA for the support, guidance, and helping hand, which is always available. We know when we ask, we are heard.
Let us all celebrate this amazing achievement today. We have a senior inspector in our midst
“Let us all celebrate this amazing achievement today. We have a senior inspector in our midst.
“A first for the Virginia SPCA, your dedication does certainly not go unseen and especially not by the hundreds of animals you have rescued from suffering. May our journey together continue for many more years,” she says.
