An exhibition of beautiful and imaginative artwork and other handicrafts created by offenders was held at the Boitumelo Junction in Thabong on 25 April.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and Bizzah Makhate Management Area, in partnership with the Government Communications and Information System (GCIS), hosted the activity at the mall in Thabong.
“The management used the opportunity to exhibit offenders’ artefacts, and highlighted and spoke about the DCS’ mandate, the different careers in the DCS, as well as flagship programmes such as the Self-Sufficiency and Sustainability Strategic Framework (SSSF) which in the 2021-’22 financial year, the department realised a whopping R115 million in savings,” says Refiloe Tau, area manager of communication at the Bizzah Makhate Management Area.
“The highlight of the day was a surprise visit by the former boxing champion Phillip Ndou, who was excited to see the products made by offenders and appreciated the work done by the DCS,” says Tau.
Over 130 members of the community visited the exhibition during the course of the day.
