A water test conducted by AfriForum’s Bothaville branch on a section of the Vals River last week indicated no signs of Cholera, but tested positive for E.coli and fecal coliforms.
The tests were done on 8 June by an accredited laboratory.
“According to the results received on June 13, the E.coli and fecal coliforms indicate signs of sewage in the river that can cause diseases other than cholera,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s district coordinator for Mooi River.
Pretorius says residents of Bothaville are urged to not swim in or use water from the river. At the very least, they should boil it first.
“It is also advisable to keep animals away from the river and creeks.”
