Thirteen dancers of the Pro Dance studio in Welkom have been selected for Team South Africa 2024, competing next year in Los Angeles, America.
Oamogetswe Rooi won gold for his hip hop solo at the competition held at the Rustenburg Civic Centre from 30 September to 7 October. He was identified as the overall best performing male dancer aged 14 to 18 years, and overall grand champion. He has won an all-expenses paid trip to America.
On 10 June the dancers took part in the audition round for the South African Championship of Performing Arts (Sacopa) in Bloemfontein, where they received their provincial colours. Overall, the dancers excelled at the recent competition.
Two of the three dancing groups won gold. Individually, the dancers brought home gold, silver, and bronze.
Annebelle Brand, Ellamae Ballot, and Sabrina Knoesen of the Eliora Group, won gold for contemporary, silver for hip hop, silver for jazz, and silver for musical theatre. Annebell won bronze for musical theatre solo, Ellamae gold for hip hop, musical theatre and tap (solo), and Sabrina bronze for musical theatre (solo).
Zoey Cilliers, Charne Grobler, Eloise Jansen, Jana Swart, and Carlien van Zyl bagged bronze for hip hop, silver for jazz, bronze for lyrical dance, silver for musical theatre, and silver for tap dance.
The Monarch Group, comprising Lara Badenhorst, Nadine Jacobs, Ilene Nel, and Kiana van Vuuren attained gold for contemporary, silver for hip hop, silver for jazz, and bronze for musical theatre.
Nadine won silver for tap (solo), and Kiana silver for contemporary and lyrical dance (solo).
