Ballroom dancing extravaganza to be held at the Goldfields Mall

Dancing in the 70s and 80s was regarded as one of the major sporting codes alongside soccer, netball, table tennis, and karate that played a major role in building and instilling discipline among the youth in the community.

“We have recently witnessed a high level of crime, drugs alcohol abuse, and rapes that is perpetuated by our youth in our community. There is no motivation to keep them off the streets,” says Mpho Mogaecho-Molete, assistant director in the Lejweleputswa Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation .

In light of this, Mogaecho-Molete decided to revive the ballroom and Latin dance showcase. Dances like the cha-cha, tango, waltz, foxtrot, rumba, and swing will be highlighted.

“Our dance legends will be coming from different towns within the district. During a special event to be held in the Goldfields Mall at Entrance 2, young and old dancers will be demonstrating and showcasing their dancing skills. It will take place on 8 March at 11:00.”
