Allegations of the unlawful possession of ammunition and illegal dealing in ammunition have resulted in the re-arrest of a 32-year-old suspect.
He is scheduled to appear in the Virginia Magistrates’ court on 14 March.
The Hawks served the summons to the suspect.
Members of the Virginia police reacted to information about a Meloding man who was in possession of an assortment of ammunition and who was looking for a buyer.
The suspect was arrested, and more than 100 rounds of rifle and handgun ammunition was recovered. The suspect was, however, later released when the case was withdrawn pending a laboratory report. He was re-arrested on 22 February.
“It is suspected that he supplies ammunition to people in possession of illegal firearms in order to perpetuate crimes such as illegal mining,” says Lt Col Zweli Mohobeleli, spokesperson for the Hawks.
- In another matter, the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on 16 February issued a warrant of arrest against Mosito Moses Khothu (39) of Meloding.
“This relates to allegations of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition levelled against him,” says Mohobeleli.
On 30 June 2020, members of Public Order Policing (POP) reacted to information and went to two houses linked to the suspect. They found over 150 rounds of ammunition, two firearms and gold-bearing material.
Khothu was immediately arrested and later released pending a laboratory report. Anyone who can shed light on Khothu’s whereabouts is urged to call Capt. Lunga Sitele on 082-697-6023. Information can also be given to Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or on the My SAPS app, anonymously.
