Two security officers were critically wounded on Tuesday, 18 October, when they were shot while guarding an Odendaalsrus grocery store.
On Tuesday night, the guards were conducting their patrols in Waterkant Street, Odendaalsrus. They were monitoring employees of the grocery store during closing time.
Their vehicle was then approached by three unknown African males.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police, says the suspects started to shoot in the direction of the security officers while they were still seated in their patrol vehicle. There was no warning of the impending shooting. The guards returned fire,” says Thakeng.
Both were initially admitted to the ICU at a local hospital. One of the guards underwent an emergency operation on his stomach and broken shoulder.
Thakeng says the two men are still recovering in hospital.
Two counts of Attempted Murder have been registered for further investigation. Should anyone have information that could lead to the arrest of these suspects, they must contact Det. WO Maria De Wet of the Odendaalsrus Detective Services on 073-200-2739 or the Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
