Police boots were on the ground to conduct compliance inspection and awareness campaigns in the Free State.
The police members of Thabong Partnership Policing in Sector 2, together with Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign in the 2010 area of Thabong on 17 January.
The residents were addressed mainly on murder, assault, gender-based violence (GBV), and sexual offences as these are the common crimes committed in that area.
They were encouraged to work together with the police and to report criminal activities happening in their area and ensure that residents are, and feel safe. Pamphlets with crime prevention hints were distributed to residents.
On the same day in Hertzogville, the Lejweleputswa district’s visible policing team, under the leadership of Col Montsheng Mohokare, together with Hertzogville’s visible policing members also conducted a compliance inspection at various liquor outlets and dealers of secondhand goods. The business owners were encouraged to comply and run their business within the confines of the law.
In Brandfort, station commander Lt Col Taole Zengele, a team of police officers, and CPF members organised a meeting with foreign nationals to address the opening and closing times of their shops and the threat of robberies. They were also advised to never leave money in their cash registers.
