For two months now houses in Odendaalsrus and Extention 2 Rheederpark have been struggling with major sewage problems.

This dire situation has been repeatedly reported to the municipal manager and the mayor, but to now avail.

“They finally showed up in Odendaalsrus on Friday, 15 September, but Rheederpark is still struggling,” says Igor Scheurkogel, councillor for these areas.

“On Monday, 18 September, I was promised a sewer jet truck for Odendaalsrus, but was told that this very truck that they promised me was in the workshop.”

There are still unresolved issues at 12 houses in Extention 2.

“I have personally sent a location pin of the pump station in this area to the municipal managers, but I get no answers for the residents. I have given the cellphone numbers of the managers to the distressed residents so that they can speak to them personally concerning their dire situation.”

Scheurkogel also made a complaint to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and reported the issue to the Green Scorpions.

“Them constantly ignoring my complaints regarding the residents of ward 35 is very disrespectful. I am not going to even bother to ask for any feedback,” he said.
