The Goudveld Multisport Club, together with AECI Mining, presented the 43rd Mielie Marathon in Welkom on 26 February.
As this race is a fast and flat route, athletes around the country believe it to be one of the best qualifying marathons for the Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon.
Having skipped two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this race over 42 km is again considered as a qualifier for the Free State Championship.
The event started and finished at the Welkom Technical High School in Volks Road. Athletes also had the option of competing in the 5 km, 10 km or 21 km race. Runners from across the country converged in Welkom to tackle this course.
