The Free State Sport Stars 2023 presented by Central24 and the University of the Free State (UFS) was launched on Tuesday. Representatives from schools with nominees was invited to the event. Nominees from 16 schools in the Free State were included for the Free State Sport Stars Awards presented by Central24 and the University of the Free State (UFS).

They are 41 learners that were nominated for their excellent achievements in sports in the past 12 months.

This includes achievements in sport codes like hockey, rugby, netball, tennis, fencing, athletics, powerlifting, basketball, karate, lazer run, cricket, table tennis, basketball and swimming.

Jeannine van Zyl, general manager of Central24, says there are many good schools in the Free State. “These school’s values resonate with those of Central24 including values like integrity, accountability, respect and play to win. She says it is wonderful to collaborate with the UFS to reward good sports results in the Free State.

The winners will be announced at a gala event at Monte Bello on 12 October.

The guest speaker is Desiree Ellis, coach of the South African Women’s Soccer Team.
