The final count down for the 21st Vista Mediclinic Road Race has begun.
On 25 August the different races of this annual beacon on the road running diary in the Goldfields will take place.
It comprises different events, including In Her honour, Race Walk of Joy and Race Walk of Love, in honour of the woman and her family.
“There are lots of prizes to be won and excitement await participants partaking in any of the different distances to be hosted,” says Hilde du Plessis, race convenor.
The annual road race caters to everyone, from the children’s race (1.5 km), 7 years to 15 years (entry fees R30), Masters 60+ (entry fees R50), 5 km Fun Run only for Women (entry fees R70) and the new open 5 km for men and women (a challenge to take up with friends and family members).
There is also a wheelchair race for disabled people (entry fees R30 per participant. Entrants can take part individually or be assisted by a family member or friend to complete the 1.5 km.
Entry forms and entries can be completed manually at the designated entry sites or they can be done online at entryninja.com.
Entries can also be done on 22, 23, 24 August at Virgin Active from 14:00 to 19:00, and on the day of the event (25 August) at Virgin Active from 09:00, until 15minutes before the start of the race at Mediclinic.
“Take up the challenge and motivate your colleague, business associates to enter. With the well known Capital Sounds in our midst lots of excitement, entertainment and music to await to be enjoyed. Don’t forget the 15 different water points who will motivate and support you throughout the walk or race. The theme of the race is ‘Teamwork makes the dreamwork’,” says Du Plessis.
This year to celebrate the 21st year of this prestigious race, there is a specially designed gold medal to be won for the main races, and also a newly designed medal for some of the other races.
The beneficiaries of the race are CANSA, Charlotte Moll Haven, and SANBS.
Lots of prizes up for grabs, including lucky draws and cash prizes in some of the categories.
Teams entering the most women in the 5 km fun run and Open 5 km race for men and women can become a winner of a R500 Lesedi ICT prize to be donated to a charity organisation of choice.
Sport clubs and schools that have the most entries in the different races will win one of the Lesedi ICT Tablets.

There will be prizes for best dressed. Participants and individual teams must submit photographs or a short video recording to qualify. Send these on the day of the event via WhatsApp to 072-054-3658. Please add the team name and also the name and surname of all appearing on the photo.
Entrants can also make their own happy birthday song with movements to join in the spirit of a 21th celebration walk, jog or run.

Be on the lookout for alternative route signage, road closure boards, emergency lights, fencing, drums, and poles with chains that will be used to warn the motorist or motor cyclist of the closure of the streets and be on the lookout for participants.
