According to the Free State Department of a Health, a measles outbreak has been confirmed in four local municipalities in the Lejweleputswa District.
Thera are 64 confirmed cases of measles in the Nala (12), Masilonyana (9), Matjhabeng (38), and Tswelopele (5) local municipalities.
According to Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson of the aforementioned department, the affected individuals are primarily children aged between five and nine years old.
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious health complications.

If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, please take them to your nearest healthcare facility immediately:
• runny nose,
• red rash,
• feeling tired,
• cough,
• fever, and
• conjunctivitis (red eyes).
“We urge all parents to ensure that their children are vaccinated against measles. The measles vaccine is safe and effective, and is the best way to protect your child and the community from this disease,” Mvambi says.

2. If symptoms develop, visit your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
3. Ensure your child is up-to-date with their measles vaccinations. If you have questions about vaccination status, consult your clinic or healthcare provider.
4. Share this information with other parents and caregivers in your community.
