An integrated development plan (IDP) meeting will be hosted by Veronica Ntakumbana, executive mayor of Lejweleputswa, on 26 April.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00 in the Ferdi Meyer Hall, Welkom.
Ntakumbana will map out the five-year plan for the current administration.
“This meeting is earmarked to raise public participation and community engagement on projects planned moving forward. These are projects coming out of in-depth research in changing the economic strategy of the district,” says Khaya Mqeke, communication manager of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality.
All of the mayors in the district, councillors and the community of Lejweleputswa, as well of representatives of mining companies and business chambers will attend the meeting, among others.
Mqeke says the IDP is a five-year plan that local government is required to compile to determine the development needs of the municipality, and the projects within the IDP are linked to the municipality’s budget.
“Because things can change very quickly, the IDP is reviewed annually. It does not only determine the status of the identified projects for the previous year, but also whether the remaining projects are still relevant and priority,” explains Mqeke.
The review process incorporates public participation, which gives citizens opportunity to highlight and prioritise their development needs.
The municipality encourages citizens to participate in IDP meetings to ensure that their needs are voiced.
Members of the public can also communicate via their ward committees and ward councillors.
“The Lejweleputswa District Municipality understands the importance of keeping pace with changing environments and employs a number of diverse instruments to keep abreast of developments in different sectors.
“Public participation stands central to all of these methodologies to gauge perceptions, movements, projections, implied outcomes and the ultimate impact on our residents and partners,” says Mqeke.
