Thanks to residents of Kutloanong’s assistance in making an arrest, four alleged copper cable thieves were cuffed by the police on 2 September.
The residents gave information to the Kutloanong Satellite Police Station about a suspect who was on the way to sell copper cables at a supermarket in block 1.
Members of the community lay hold of the suspect, who had copper cables in his possession, and more copper cables were found at the supermarket and seized by the Odendaalsrus police.
Two scrap yard owners, 23 and 24 years old, and two foreign nationals, 38 and 43 years old, were arrested.
In total, 46 rolls of 18 core copper cable were seized at the supermarket.
The suspects appeared in the Odendaalsrus Magistrates’ Court on 4 September.
“I applaud the residents of Kutloanong for being a reporting nation; this led to the arrests and seizure of copper cables,” said Brig. Mzondi Mojafi, acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa.
