The Station Commander of the Odendaalsrus South African Police Service (SAPS), Colonel Thenjiwe Mkhumbeni, led a Community Imbizo at the Kutlwanong Library on Friday, aimed at strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the local community.
The event was a collaborative effort involving the SAPS, the Community Police Forum, and the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport. Key stakeholders included the Department of Social Development, the South African Social Security Agency, the Department of Health, traditional healers, and the Tshepo Themba Foundation.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng of the Lejweleputswa District Corporate Communication, “The aim of the Imbizo was to address crime and promote good relations between the SAPS, other government departments, and the community at large.”
The session addressed various pressing community issues, including human trafficking, child neglect, initiation schools, abduction, organized crime, corruption, domestic violence, repeat offenders, and the challenges faced by parolees. Additionally, there was a focus on raising awareness about chronic diseases and social grants.
Colonel Mkhumbeni emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating crime, urging attendees to share information regarding criminal activities with the police. She explained the processes for submitting informer claims and reiterated that a safer environment can only be achieved through collective efforts.
In closing, Mkhumbeni expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders and participants, wishing them a safe and peaceful festive season.
