A gruesome collision on the R34 road in the vicinity of Odendaalsrus has claimed the life of one man.
Two trucks travelling in the same direction on Friday (18/02) collided and caught fire.
One of the drivers told the police that both trucks were heading towards Kroonstad.
According to the driver, his truck was hit from behind by another truck.
He then lost control and swerved off the road. His truck came to a standstill next to the Harmonia farm.
The other truck caught fire, trapping the driver inside. He was rescued and transported to the Mediclinic Welkom, but he died soon after.
At the scene of the collision, the fire spread to the other truck, but the driver managed to escape and flee for his life.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Det. WO Teboho Makole of the Odendaalsrus Detective Services.
