A group of Matjhabeng service providers have taken it upon themselves to clean cemeteries in the six municipal units.
The Diphethoho Group is indeed living up to its name by being an agent of positive change in society.
“We realised that our cemeteries are dirty, as they have not been maintained for quite some time, and so we will take on the DIY approach,” said the members.
The lack of resources did not deter the group, and although the members had no resources like transport, petrol or equipment they dug into their own pockets, while others even commuted daily from other towns to be part of the team.
The team tackled this mammoth project from 6 to 21 July.
Matjhabeng councillor Rubben Tlake, MMC for community services, assisted the businesspeople with machinery, petrol and manpower. Community members also helped, and the volunteers now amount to 33.
To continue with this selfless work, the businesspeople and community members will need donations of any kind.
The group urges the community to help keep the cemeteries clean.
Criminal elements were also cautioned against burning and desecrating graves for financial gain.
The team is grateful to the volunteers and community members who helped them.
