May marks the 70th birthday of AFM Deo Doxa in Welkom.
“We thank God that throughout the history of her existence, He protected her calling. We recognise today that every seasonal change that has taken place in these 70 years has been God’s plan and purpose. As the scripture says, everything works for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose,” say Past. Fans and Dr Jackie Botes, who have been the pastoral shepherds of this flock for 24 years.
“We recognise and salute every preacher, every member, who has been part of this church during these 70 years. For those who have contributed to the fulfilment of God’s purpose and plan, we are grateful. Hundreds of these heroes have already left for their heavenly home, but we call them to remembrance today. We believe that they are part of the cloud of witnesses on the pavilions of the heavens that encourage us here on earth to persevere in the race.”
Fans says they believe that Deo Doxa was called by God in this season of her existence to be a catalyst of reconciliation and to restore the dignity of all people made in the image and likeness of God.
“We see Christ working in us and restoring the world around us. At this moment we are made up of many nations – but we see ourselves as one nation in Christ.”
He says the church is moving into a season where more believers will experience the wake-up call of reconciliation and restoration of the nations as they are strategically placed in this region of Matjhabeng.
“Matjhabeng means the place where nations gather,” says Botes.
“What a privilege to be co-workers in the ministry of reconciliation that Christ demonstrated when He entered this world in human form,” he says.
They visualise a church that will express the glory and goodness of Christ.
- AFM Deo Doxa comprises two places of worship – 220 Stateway, Bedelia, and the Dutch Reformed Church hall in Dagbreek.
