The Misconception of a Failure
was inspired by the mistakes a Bronville man made in life as a young boy growing up in a poor environment.

In this book Quinton Jacobs touches on the social ills faced by the youths in communities that are deprived of aspiring to greatness and success, or having a goal and purpose-driven lives.

This inspirational book, which was published on 15 April, tells the story of a young man who overcame the odds in life.

Jacobs talks about how he suffered failure at school.

“I was physically and emotionally abused, coming from a less privileged and dysfunctional family,” he explains.

“I grew up with no parents and was raised by my granny. I learned many of life’s lessons on the streets.”

He made a decision that circumstances, the trauma of the past and the terrible experiences, the poor decisions and the opinions of men and society would not define and determine his future.

“I was a lost young man who was bound by a defeated life, gangsterism, drugs and alcohol. As a young man I sold drugs, I failed myself and my family countless times, and I brought hurt, disappointment and shame on them.

“I was a young man who destroyed the lives of many, I deserved a prison sentence or the grave, but instead God turned my life around and I found salvation.”

Jacobs says today’s youth neglects the importance of having God in their lives and living a life of excellence.

Jacobs is a final-year student studying Public Management in Durban.

“I travel around South Africa going to schools and doing community work amongst the youth. I encourage the youth to aspire to greatness and success. They must have a vision in life and live a goal and purpose-driven life.”
