The South African JKA Karate Championship is scheduled to be held on 20 and 21 May at the Ellis Park Indoor Training Arena (Standard Bank Arena) in Johannesburg.

The karatekas who will be taking part were all selected during a landmark event that this year took place on 19 February.

History was made on this day when all the JKA Karate Clubs in the Free State competed in the provincial JKA Karate Championship in Bloemfontein.

“Normally, the provincial championship in this region would consist of all the clubs in the Northern Free State, however this year it consisted of all the clubs in the Free State,” says Marie Lonergan of Stateway JKA Karate in Welkom.

The championship had a record 280 entries. Stateway JKA Karate was one of the clubs that entered the provincial championship, and club members performed exceptionally well.
