Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) recently visited the Kheleng Secondary School in Hennenman.
“The aim of the visit was to address challenges affecting the youth, with specific focus on bullying, sexual offences, domestic violence, substance abuse, theft and dangerous weapons,” says Sello Dlamini, teacher.
The agreement between the police and the school, aligned with the school-based crime prevention guideline developed by the SAPS, aims to provide a framework within which the SAPS can work in support of school safety programmes.
Various community initiatives, including the Community Policing Forum and school governing bodies, were involved in the programme to engage about issues relating to children’s safety and well-being both in and out of school.
