The Eden Hope and Care Centre in Virginia is still engulfed in darkness a week later.

Due to arrears of R3,4 million, the municipality cut the services to the centre on 22 October.

Eden is a non-profit organisation which caters both to the destitute and the sick. It receives no government funding to provide services, therefore it relies on the gratuity of the Virginia community for its daily needs.

Last week Vista reported that electrical services had been restored. This, however, did not happen.

Vista understands that municipal officials told Eden that services will only be restored once the R3,4 million is paid. Eden has no way of obtaining this kind of money.

No official comment from the municipality is forthcoming.
