A 70-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock on a farm near Virginia.

On 26 March, members of the Virginia Rural Safety unit, together with the Odendaalsrus Stock Theft unit, apprehended four suspects aged following the recovery of suspected stolen livestock worth R38 500.

Intelligence-led information about the alleged stolen cattle was traced, which led members to a farm in Virginia. On arrival, members found 11 calves in a cattle kraal. The 70-year-old owner of the kraal was subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock.

Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects.

The recovered cattle was positively identified by the lawful owner after 12 cattle were allegedly stolen from his farm during February.

On arrival, the SAPS found 11 calves in a cattle kraal.
