Members of the Thabong police’s Partnership Policing, in conjunction with various stakeholders, ended the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign on Tuesday, 10 December, at the Adelaide Tambo Secondary School in Doornpan, Thabong.
“This event included the Thabong Partnership Policing Sector 4, Substance Sector 11, Community Police Forum (CPF), Bambanani Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) non-governmental organisation (NGO), and ward 17,” says Sgt Palesa Thabana of the Lejweleputswa police.
Thbana says the initiative aimed to address women and child abuse, with more emphasis put on child protection.
Khale Tlhone of the Bambanani OVC encouraged community members to visit or call the NGO in times of distress.
The pamphlets that were distributed contained a variety of information on topics pertaining to gender-based violence (GBV), domestic violence, sexual offences, housebreaking, and safety tips and hints.
More than 100 community members were spoiled for choice when they were offered a selection of clothes as an early Christmas gift. They also enjoyed freshly cooked meals and children were spoiled with their favourite snacks.
“The police, together with its partners, were lauded for this initiative by members of the community,” says Thabana.
“The men and women in blue will ensure a safer festive season for all through their ongoing campaigns beyond the 16 days of activism. There will be more boots on the ground.”
