Although the much-anticipated Welkom Old Auto Club‘s annual Cars in the Park veteran show has shifted its venue, its heart and spirit remains intact.
This year the grand show will be held at the Goudveld-Hoërskool in Long Road, and is deemed a show motor enthusiasts should not miss.
Established in 1979, the old Auto Club held its first Cars in the Park show in Welkom 20 years ago.
Starting with 99 cars, the show has grown over the years, and now entries from as far as Sedgefield in the Western Cape have been received for this year’s extravaganza.
“Some of the local schools offer their boarding houses at a very reasonable price, even including breakfast.
“Guest houses all over the Goldfields also offer their services,” says committee member, Magda Ferreira.
The Welkom Old Auto Club also does its part by donating most of the proceeds from the show to charity each year, and this year they promise to deliver again.
The ever popular Thunder Tour will bring their “beasts” and the club is indeed very fortunate to be associated with the tour, says Ferreira.
Cars and Coffee and NDT Sounds will host a show and shine, and sound-off event at the show.
“They also donate most of their proceeds towards the charity.
There will also be an unveiling of a restored and rebuilt vehicle.
“We made sure young and old would be entertained. While Dad is wandering around cars, Mom can shop at the flea market stalls,” she says.
All vehicles older than 20 years may exhibit for free.
Tea or coffee will be available to exhibitors on arrival. Each registered exhibitor will receive a certificate for the day.
The gates will open at 08:00 for the public. The entrance fee is R30, with public parking R10 per vehicle.
