The members of Virginia Social Crime Prevention and the Victim Empowerment Centre have embarked on a 16 Days of Activism campaign against women and children abuse.The launch was held at the Saaiplaas Community Centre on Monday, 5 December.
The departments of social development, health, correctional services as well as Childline South Africa, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and Bophelong Youth formed part of this informative event.
“Community members came in numbers and the police addressed them on issues relating to gender-based violence, domestic violence and rapes and the prevention thereof,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Thakeng says they also addressed the rehabilitation process, court procedures and referral system by different stakeholders.
“At the end of the event, pamphlets with crime prevention tips were distributed to residents,” says Thakeng.
