The Ventersburg SAPS and the Lejweleputswa SAPS communication unit reached out to the learners at Matseripe Secondary School during a crime awareness campaign.

On Friday 22 July, a contingent of police officials visited the school and spoke to the learners about bullying, substance abuse, gangsterism, crime awareness and crime prevention.

“We told the learners they must always be obedient to the laws of the country and to protect the infrastructure. We also encouraged them to create a healthy atmosphere for learning. They must not be problematic children, butthey must instead co-operate with their educators,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, Lejwelepu­tswa media liaison,and who was also one of the speakers on the day.

Bishop Benny Mokanyane opened the session with SScripture reading and Pprayer.

During his key note address,Thakeng, during his key note address, motivated the Grade 12 learners, especially those who did not pass their mid-year examinations.

“It’s never too late because they can still do better by the end of the year. The beginning is not so important but what is of paramount importance is the end of your life. The learners of Matseripe were encouraged to work hard academically, so that they can be part of the South African Police Service family,” said Thakeng.

The learners were discouraged from using drugs and encouraged to rather come forward with information regarding drug dealers and drug dens in the area.

The police team comprised Thakeng and Molebogeng Lechesa, intern Thandiwe Mazibuko, WO Lucky Ndayi, Ccommunity Ppolicing Oofficer Sgt Tilu Seitshiro, and Sgt Dimakatso Morake.
