Two suspects were arrested and a roll of Telkom copper cable valued at R8 000 and an Eskom insulator valued at R3 000 was retrieved by members of the Welkom Public Order Policing.
The police were monitoring the disruption at the Matjhabeng Municipality premises on Thursday (28/07), when they received information from Crime Intelligence about suspects in possession of copper cable.
They went to Virginia and the two suspects were identified in an area known as Slab Park in Meloding, Virginia.
“When they saw the police, they dropped the items and fled in different directions. The SAPS members gave chase and apprehended them,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the SAPS in Lejweleputswa.
The men, aged 26 and 28, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
