A manhunt has been launched after copper cable worth R4,5 million was stolen from the Bronville electrical substation.
The theft and vandalism occurred during the night and early morning of 1 and 2 March.
The Bronville substation is situated at the corner of Waterboer and Philander Street.
“The incident was reported to the Bronville police station at 08:30 by a passerby, and the police immediately responded,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
A case of damage to infrastructure has been registered.
Thakeng says the extent of the damage was ascertained after consultation with the Matjhabeng Municipality’s security department.
