The Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) unit and the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) have successfully secured a preservation order against alleged illegal mining kingpin Max Nelson Mlambo (38).

The Hawks confiscated Mlambo’s three houses, three vehicles (a Toyota C-HR, Ford Rapture and a Chevrolet sedan) and R544 000 in cash.

The preservation order comes after the accused was arrested on 15 November 2021 by members of the Free State Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit.

“This happened during the termination of a project driven investigation,” says Capt. Christopher Singo, spokesperson for the Free State Hawks.

The project began in July 2018, and was aimed at disrupting and dismantling the threat of illicit mining in Welkom and Thabong.
