Five boxers of the Meloding Boxing Club have been included in the Free State boxing team participating in the national boxing championships to be held in Tzaneen, Limpopo, from 4 to 9 July.
One of those selected is Malefu Kobe, a participant in the 48 kg to 50 kg elite female division, and chosen as the best female boxer of the Free State championships.
The other boxers who excelled are:
- Lerato Malefane (50 kg to 52 kg female youth);
- Karabo Ngawadange (54 kg to 57 kg female youth);
- Thembisile Twala (54 kg to 57 kg elite female); and
- Wandile Mtshali (52 kg to 54 kg elite male).
“In the past they have been unable to seize their opportunity due to financial constraints,” says Spinki Ranoka, member of the boxing club.
“We appeal to the community and businesses to help these boxers. Contributions will be used for transport, kits, food, and accommodation.”
